What is Exchange?

Exchange is a beloved Microsoft messaging system that includes a mail server, an e-mail program (e-mail client), and groupware applications. Exchange email is typically used in business settings, most people use Microsoft Outlook to take benefit of Outlook's collaborative features, such as the potential to share calendars and taste lists.

How Does Exchange work?

Exchange uses Rpc over Https = gather association (outlook anywhere)

Setting up Exchange in Outlook
1. In Outlook >Go to Tools | E-mail Accounts| Add new email accounts

Exchange Features
• Mailboxes: Allows you to create, edit and conduct mailboxes. This includes setting up taste information that will make employee taste information available in the Global Address Book in Outlook.
• collective Folders: Allows you to set a user to Admin status, so that they can create and conduct collective folders for shared documents in whether Outlook Web way or Outlook.
• Distribution Lists: create a distribution list using use a particular email alias. When a message is sent to a distribution list, it is automatically routed to the email address of each member in the list.
• Contacts: create and conduct external Contacts so that they can be included in a Global Address Book.
• Disk Space: View/manage how much disk space is being used by mailboxes, and order further space as needed.

Exchange - Spam control

Junk E-Mail folders
• Allows users to set filters in order to sell out spam.
• The Junk E-mail Filter in Outlook is turned on by default, and the protection level is set to Low.

How to turn the level of junk e-mail protection:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. On the Preferences tab, under E-mail, click Junk E-mail.
3. agree the protection level that you want.

How to share calendars

Select Share my Calendar

This highlight requires you to use a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account.
1. In Calendar, in the sailing Pane click Share My Calendar.
2. Specify the people who can way your Calendar.
3. Click Add.
4. In the Add Users dialog box, in the Type Name or agree from List box, enter the name of the man whom you want to grant sharing permissions to.
5. Under Add Users, click Add, and then click Ok.
6. In the Name box, click the name of the man you just added.
7. Under Permissions, in the Permission Level list, click the permission level that you want.

Public Folders
• collective Folders supply an effective way to collect, organize, and share information.
• In order to contribute/view a collective briefcase a user must be made an Administrator to the collective Folder.
• Administrator way allows the user to conduct collective Folders through Outlook or Outlook Web way (enabled through SiteControl)
1. Click on the user to be added to the collective Folder
2. Click the Submit button

How to Open a collective briefcase in Outlook (2003)
1. On the Go menu, click briefcase
• (Folder: Displays the folders available in your mailbox. To view subfolders, click the plus sign (+) next to the folder. If the briefcase List is not visible, on the Go menu, click briefcase List.).
2. At the bottom of the briefcase List, click collective Folders, and then double-click the briefcase you want to open. If the briefcase you want to open is placed within another folder, click the plus sign (+) next to each subfolder until you find the briefcase you want.

Public briefcase in Outlook (2003) - setting permissions
1. agree the type of briefcase you want to check permissions on.
2. Right-click the folder, and then click Sharing.
3. Click the overview tab. Your permission level appears under Your permissions.
• If the Permissions tab appears instead of the overview tab, you have owner permission. If neither tab appears, you do not have permission to view or turn the briefcase properties.
