About Smtp Host

One of the options is Global Configuration, and it shows up with a wrench and a screwdriver, indicating tools. Global Configuration can also be reached by selecting Global Configuration underneath the Server menu item.

Four tabs exist in Global Configuration, which are Site, System, Server, and Permissions. Each of the four tabs has many fields and options. Some of the settings are obvious, even to the novice. Others might as well be written in a foreign language. What do the settings mean? What are they for? What should you set the values to?

This description covers the fields and options in the Server tab.

Server Settings

Path to Temp Folder: This value is regularly set to a /tmp directory directly underneath the root of the Joomla installation. Temporary files are stored here. Gzip Page Compression: Is your site suffering from operation problems? Do pages take too long to render? This is one of the first things to try to speed up your site. Basically, the law takes a microscopic bit more time to compress a bunch of data then sends it to the user's system. Then the user's law uncompresses it. Processing time is regularly faster than transit time, so most often, setting this to "Yes" will make your pages render faster. Error Reporting: How many errors do you want to show up in your error file? Set this value to None, Simple, Maximum, or law Default. Force Ssl: If you have Ssl enabled on your server, you can use this. If you do not know if Ssl is enabled, talk to your hosting firm to find out. Ssl is "Secured Sockets Layer" and you can tell when you're using it, because the Url will start with https instead of http. Any page that deals with money or personal information should use Ssl.

Location Settings

Server Time Zone: Where is the server located? Where is your hosting company? Put that location in here, not your personal location.

Ftp Settings

Enable Ftp: This is the ftp layer. If this is enabled, you can upload images in the media manager. Ftp Host: This is the Ip address for your hosting company. This is regularly filled out during the installation of the site. Ftp Port: A server has one Ip address, but the server can have several ports, or points to make connections. A port is a number. The ftp port is regularly 21. Don't turn this unless your installation isn't working and your hosting firm told you they use a distinct ftp port. Ftp Username: What's the username used to log in when using ftp? Ftp Password: Ftp Root: The default is /. Don't turn this unless you've changed things on your server with the hosting company.

Database Settings

Don't turn any of these fields. They are established during the installation. The only time you'd turn these values is if you migrate your system.

Mail Settings

These settings are established during installation. Don't turn them (with the exception of the From fields) unless your law starts to have problems or you install an prolongation that asks you to turn these values.

Mailer: Which agenda will handle mailing? (Smtp stands for simple Mail change Protocol.) From email: This is one value you can change. It's the email address any email comes from. From Name: This is one value you can change. It's the name that shows up next to the email address. Sendmail Path: This is the path to the sendmail program. This is set during installation. If you need it for some reason, experience your hosting company. Smtp Authentication: Ask your hosting firm if you need this, but only if your installation's email isn't working. Smtp Security: If you're having mail problems, experience your hosting firm to find out what this value should be set to: None, Ssl (Secure Sockets Layer), or Ttl (Time to Live). Smtp Port: You cannot turn this field. The default is 25. Smtp Username: Smtp Password: Smtp Host: This value is set during installation.
